School Board elects officers in first meeting of 2017
Posted on 01/05/2017

The School Board of West St. Paul-Mendota Heights-Eagan Area Schools (District 197) elected officers for the positions of board chair, vice chair/clerk and treasurer at their meeting on January 4, 2017. The officer elections occur annually during the first school board meeting of each calendar year.

The three officers of the board were unanimously re-elected to their positions. Joanne Mansur was re-elected board chair, Byron Schwab was re-elected treasurer and Stephanie Levine was re-elected as vice chair/clerk.

During the upcoming year, the board plans to continue its work on the district’s Strategic Framework, specifically focusing on career and college readiness, equity, a district-wide facilities study and legislative partnerships and priorities.

In addition to the election of officers, Maureen Ramirez was officially sworn in as a new school board member at the January 4 meeting. She is serving a one year term. Ramirez was appointed to the school board after the resignation of Dr. Matt Klein, who was elected to the Minnesota Senate in November 2016.

The school board meets twice each month: the first meeting of the month is a business meeting, while the other is a work session. To gather feedback from the community, a listening session is held before each business meeting and a public comment period takes place during each work session. Contact information for all school board members is available on the district website at
